Deck Privacy Wall 2012

I designed and constructed this privacy wall for a second floor deck, whose corner faced a series of windows and fire escapes. The client wanted to create a bit of privacy without losing light. One of the challenges was anchoring the frame; my solution was to tie the two-by-fours into the existing low masonry wall. Another challenge was the placement (on the deck) of an exhaust unit for the restaurant below the apartment, around which the walls had to wrap. We decided to cut out a window opening on that wall so the surface of the unit could be used as a hidden storage shelf, or a place to put a plant.  See the results below.

Work in progress!
